The process involves submitting proof of relationship, salary certificates, and tenancy contracts to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA). Family-sponsored visas are typically valid for one to three years and can be renewed as long as the sponsor continues to meet the eligibility criteria. Freelancers must obtain a freelance permit from a free zone authority, such as Dubai Media City or Abu Dhabi’s twofour54, and then apply for a residency visa under their own sponsorship. Similarly, investors who meet specific financial criteria, such as owning property worth a certain amount or holding shares in a UAE-based company, can apply for investor visas. These self-sponsored visas are particularly appealing to entrepreneurs, digital nomads, and retirees who wish to live in the UAE without being tied to an employer.
